FAQ

Why can't I download midi files?

Some time ago, it became apparent that some unscrupulous individuals were downloading the midi files from this site only to sell them as ringtones. This was a violation of the simple policy of "for personal use and educational purposes only." Personal requests for midi files are still honored. Just ask.

What's with all the advertising?

Simple. Hosting a web site costs money. Since I'm by no means a rich man, the object here was to make TV's Greatest Hits self-sustaining. The best way I could think of to achieve that was to offer my visitors a means by which they might find something they would like or want. A lot of effort has gone (and continues to go) into writing code with the idea that it generates relevant content for you. Perhaps you'll discover a DVD or soundtrack that you didn't know existed and now cannot live without. ;-)

Why Amazon?

Amazon offers a wide variety of sources. This translates to some of the best pricing that can be found. Do you have a better idea? Send me a note.

What happened to all the links to hard-to-find soundtracks?

They became harder to find and it was increasingly difficult to keep up with the changes. Therefore, I had to discontinue the practice of tracking the stuff down and posting links. However, this may change in the near future, now that the site restructure has settled.
Update: With the opening of the TV's Greatest Hits store, DVDepot, it is now possible to find many of the rare soundtracks to which I used to post links.

What site restructure? Why have there been outages lately?

The site has recently been overhauled (again). About a year ago, we went to an Access database structure which allowed us to more easily update content. However, as Access is a desktop database management tool, it doesn't handle large requests over the web very well. This became painfully obvious with the increased traffic to the site.

We just restructured again so that now the site is largely MySQL driven. Some outages occurred due to changes in syntax from Access to MySQL. Outages should now be a thing of the past.

How come you don't offer new midi files more frequently?

TV's Greatest Hits is, first and foremost, a hobbyist site. I love to design, maintain and improve the website. Any changes you see on the site (good and bad) can be attributed to me and me alone. The subject matter (music in television) was my first love. What better way for a hobby to evolve than to marry the two into a single entity?

All of that being said, it is not the end-all and be-all of my life. Believe me, if I could find a way to make TV's Greatest Hits keep a roof over my head and food on the table, I'd be doing it full time!!

Hey, if you have any suggestions in that regard, I'd love to hear them!
