 Unimpressed and disappointed. August 3, 2010

I decided to buy these because of the good reviews. I was very unimpressed. The sound isn't nearly as clear as described. My 5 year old off brand speakers have a cleaner sound. They might be good but the sound they produce is just not my cup of tea.

When I first hooked these speakers up they sounded odd and somewhat bad. I was worried that they were either broken or just poor quality, but after closer inspection I realized that the "Tone" knob was all the way down. I played some high quality songs instead of streaming video to find the sweet spot for the tone. Immediately after adjusting it slightly both myself and the company that was with me were blown away by the sound quality. I had my old stock speakers hooked up at the same time, and I kept switching back and forth between the two to compare. These Altec speakers blew my stock ones away.
At max volume they stay true; no crackling or distortion whatsoever.
For the price tag these speakers are easily five stars. Even if they were $20-$30 more expensive I'd still be quite satisfied.
The one con about these speakers is that there is no bass adjustment knob, but it's not a big deal since they still sound perfectly fine with your internal settings.

Just hooked these bad boys up and they sound great. The bass is pretty heavy, but I set the tone on the speakers and adjusted my EQ on my computer, now they sound great!! Will probably sound even better when I get them broken in. A+++
Sounds Much More Expensive November 30, 2009

I picked these up for under $30 as a quick cheap replacement for my blown out computer speakers. I was amazed by the "crystal clear" sound quality. This is my first experience with Altec Lansing products but I am very impressed and they sound like they cost 5 times as much. Compare to CA, and the rest at this price point, these blow them away. I would highly recommend.
